vintage envelope sleeve/cover (cover only )from The 1953 Models Sketchbook calendar featuring artwork by Earl MacPherson and a small MacPherson pin-up apparently cut from a calendar.
Earl MacPherson was a pin-up artist known for his illustrations for the Shaw-Barton Calendar Company and Brown & Bigelow. MacPherson created a unique pin-up calendar that would become a standard in the industry. McPherson's 1943 success with his Artist's Sketch Pad was followed by another triumph: his two deck set of playing cards for Brown & Bigelow. His diary-style calendar, Something to Remember, was his last success before he went off to war in 1944. Discharged in 1946, he worked again with Shaw-Barton and began the first of nine consecutive years of MacPherson Sketch Book calendars for them.
Shaw-Barton, Inc. was founded in 1940 by a group of investors led by Jay S. Shaw, who formed the company and purchased the calendar and specialty advertising division of The American Art Works in Coshocton, Ohio.
